Incident Report / Actions Taken by Team Members

On Friday, February 18th at approx. 0715 hours I was contacted by the Facilities Department reference a traffic collision on the Vista campus. I responded to the area of the north perimeter of the campus, just west of the security trailer. I observed that a 2005 gray 2-door Infiniti CaLic#5EMR761 with extensive front-end damage had taken out a large section of North Coast fencing located along the north perimeter of the property next to Guajome Lake Road. The vehicle was resting facing east bound on North Coast Property just east of the curve in the roadway. Facilities staff member Juan Gonzalez was speaking to Silvio DeLaVega Ramos (2/7/73), who had initially identified himself as the driver of the vehicle. However, it was later determined that Silvio was not the driver of the vehicle. Silvio had come by the Facilities Department prior to responding to the scene of the accident and reported to Facilities Lead Terry Schmidt that his son had been involved in a single car collision. Silvio only speaks Spanish and Juan provided translation for me. Silvio said he initially told me he was the driver since his step-son is unlicensed and he was just trying to protect him from getting in trouble. Silvio said he would pay for the damage to the fencing.

I spoke to Glen Alejo and he admitted that he was the driver of the vehicle. Glen has owned the vehicle for about a month and has yet to register it in his name. Glen is unlicensed and uninsured. Glen said at about 0630 hours he was driving southbound on Ramona Drive. When he came to the sharp eastbound turn on Guajome Lake Road, he took the curve too fast and the back end gave out causing the vehicle to slide into the fence. Glen was not injured and said he was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Silvio made arrangements to have the vehicle towed from the scene.
