Incident Report / Actions Taken by Team Members
On February 26, 2024, at approximately 1608 hours, I was notified by Greg Matis from Facilities of found narcotics paraphernalia that was located inside the Junior High bathrooms. I responded to Matis’ office to recover the paraphernalia and record details of the incident.
Matis advised me one of his crew members, Sean Pendleton, located the paraphernalia inside a stall in the Junior High bathrooms, shortly before contacting me. Matis told me the bathrooms had not been cleaned Sunday night and throughout the day Monday they had been propped open because the doors were being painted by a crew from MC Painting. Matis had no further details and told me Pendleton had already left for the day. Matis provided me with the paraphernalia that was located. I observed a broken glass pipe which from my training and experience I knew to be a pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. Along with the pipe was a small black scale which had a white crystal residue inside, consistent with methamphetamine.
On February 27, 2024, at approximately 0930 hours, I met with Pendleton at the Junior High bathrooms. Pendleton told me that at around 1600 hours while using the restroom, he noticed a green object inside a plant decoration that was hanging inside the stall. Pendleton took a closer look at the plant and discovered a broken glass pipe. He also located the black scale behind the pot of the plant. Pendleton immediately took the objects to Matis. Pendleton does not know who all had access to the bathrooms or how long the paraphernalia could have been in the bathroom. I noted while in the bathroom that the plant where the paraphernalia was found was approximately five feet above the ground so fortunately a small child would not have access to the paraphernalia.
I returned to my office where I reviewed security footage of the area from Sunday afternoon until the paraphernalia was discovered by Pendleton on Monday, at around 1534 hours. I continued watching to see if anyone returned to the area looking for their lost property, but nothing definitive was identified on the security cameras that could lead to the identification of the subject who left the paraphernalia in the bathroom.
The items were photographed before being properly disposed of so that they would not be a hazard to anyone. A report was generated to document the incident.
