Incident Report / Actions Taken by Team Members
On November 20, 2023, at approximately 0730 hours, Jon Fecteau was notified by Greg Matis that a theft had occurred in the Green Yard on the property of North Coast Church Vista Campus. Fecteau responded and met with Matis at the yard at around 0830. Matis showed Fecteau the entry point which was temporary fencing to the west of the yard behind konex boxes. The fencing is held together with steel posts that were hammered into the ground. The post had been removed which allowed the fence to swing open. Matis showed Fecteau the covered work area where several tools had been stolen from. Matis stated a Millermatic 135 Mig welder ($1000) with mask and Grayco Ultramax II 495 lo-boy paint sprayer ($1800) had been stolen from inside the work area. Matis last saw the items on November 17, 2023 inside the work area.
Matis told Fecteau additional items had been taken but left behind in the field to the north of the lot. Those items included garden hoses, 5 gallon bucket of paint, a gas lawn edger and painting tarps. The two stolen items did not have identifying marks and serial numbers could not be located as of yet. Matis will continue looking for serial numbers for the items.
Fecteau and Matis searched the area north of the yard for additional items as well as evidence. Nothing of evidentiary value was located. Tim Moy arrived a short time later and assisted. Fecteau, Moy and members of the IT department walked to the lot to establish a plan for installing cameras as well as deterrent devices in the area to help prevent further thefts from the yard. Matis was encouraged to etch expensive items in the future with something that would allow law enforcement to identify the items as belonging to North Coast if located later.
Due to the fact that there are no known serial numbers for the items or any identifying marks on the items to assist in the recovery, a law enforcement repot has not been filed. If serial numbers are located a report may be filed. Follow-up will be conducted as needed by Fecteau and Moy in this case. Fecteau and the I.T. department will be developing a plan to install cameras to cover the area in the future.
