The following report was written after reviewing surveillance footage of the incident.
On November 12, 2023, at approximately 0228 hours, a dark gray Nissan sedan occupied by a female driver and male passenger entered the parking lot of the Carlsbad campus. They drove behind the church from the south side and made several passes in the rear parking lot. At approximately 0244 hours, the male is seen approaching the trailer in the rear lot and cutting the lock off. After removing the lock, he opens the trailer and closes it after seeing there is nothing of value inside. The male makes his way to one of the two konex boxes next. At 0255 hours, the man can be seen carrying property from the konex box and storing it behind the U-haul truck parked in the rear. The man makes several trips with property, before going out of camera view, presumably to signal his getaway driver. At approximately 0303 hours, the male is back on camera and the Nissan appears, backing in next to the U-haul and popping the trunk open. A short time later, a white female emerges from the vehicle and assists the male in loading the trunk with the stolen property they obtained from the konex box. At 0306 hours, both subjects left the campus in the vehicle.
On November 12, 2023, at approximately 0654 hours, Director of Safety Tim Moy notified Jon Fecteau about the burglary. At about 0800 hours, Jon Fecteau began reviewing video of the incident. Jon Fecteau noticed the suspects covered the license plate of the vehicle during the burglary but noticed several distinguishing characteristics on the vehicle. Jon Fecteau was able to send several still pictures of the incident to former colleagues of his still working in law enforcement for Carlsbad Police Department. Later that day, Jon Fecteau was provided a list of stolen items which included a portable table saw, two cordless leaf blowers, a cordless saw, a framing nail gun, a pneumatic stapler and a jigsaw. Additional items that may have been stolen were a cordless grinder, woodworking clamps and sheetrock trowel tools. Jon Fecteau provided this list to law enforcement.
On November 12, 2023, at approximately 2108 hours, Jon Fecteau was notified by Carlsbad Police Detectives that they had located the vehicle in a hotel parking lot and were setting up an operation to locate the suspects and hopefully recover the stolen property. At 2309 hours, Detectives notified Jon Fecteau that some of the stolen items were recovered inside the suspect vehicle.
On November 13, 2023, at approximately 1300 hours, Jon Fecteau along with Pastor Kip Strawbridge and Alan Haring met detectives at Carlsbad Police Department to identify and recover property. A router, nail gun, pneumatic stapler and battery pack were recovered.
On November 14, 2023, at approximately 1827 hours, Jon Fecteau was notified by the Carlsbad Police Detective that the female was in custody and they had located a Milwaukee Sawmill in her possession. Jon Fecteau verified with Alan Haring that the tool did in fact belong to the church. Detectives are continuing their follow-up to identify the male and locate additional stolen property. Jon Fecteau will continue his work with the detectives as the investigation continues. See Carlsbad Police Department Crime Report #23-07256 for details.
