Describe Medical Event:

The two children were playing near a book/toy cabinet. One of the kids climbed on the cabinet causing it to fall on both kids.

Emma was struck in the legs by the shelf and Keagan was completely underneath the cabinet, but it is believed by one of the assistants, (Sarah Diaz) that Keagan actually was small enough to fit into one of the openings and thus was not actually struck by the weight of the cabinet.

I checked both kids for any visible injuries and did not find any injuries to include bumps, bruises, etc. Sarah Diaz was near the children at the time and told me they did not lose consciousness and began crying almost immediately. They both seemed alert and responsive.

This incident occurred right before parent pick-up so needless to say it was during a busy time. I spoke to Emma’s mom Samantha who was holding Emma and she was made aware of what happened.

Children staff spoke to Keagan’s parents and I did not get a chance to speak to them.

We can contacted facilities and maintenance and requested that they remove the wheels and possibly place an earthquake strap to secure the cabinet to the wall to prevent future incidents.

These shelves had been in this room for quite some time and has never been an issue.
