Mike Hawkins suffers from Congestive Heart Failure and had a heart pump inserted on 8/4/21 at UCSD medical center. This evening, while attending the recovery group meeting in the 5th grade classroom, Mike lost consciousness while sitting in a chair. He did not fall to the ground but was slumped over unresponsive After about a minute he regained consciousness. Craig Knutsen leads the recovery group and they called 9-1-1 for emergency medical response. Paramedics arrived on scene, evaluated Mike and transported him to the hospital. Mike’s mother, Debra, was on campus and she responded to the classroom.
As the Team Lead at the Jordan, I was notified by Facilities that paramedics were en route due to a medical condition. I went over to the 5th grade classroom and noticed that Mike was sitting in a chair and appeared alert. I did not administer any medical aid to Mike as he did not appear in distress at the time and paramedics were on their way. Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and treated Mike.
